Wilhelmina Perry is 91 years old. She is a retired New Yorker living on Social Security, and for years she has relied on the Medicare Savings Program to help cover her Medicare premiums. It is a benefit she depends on to make ends meet.
But keeping that benefit has never been easy. The program requires annual recertification, and year after year Wilhelmina faced the same maze: a local agency that loses paperwork, misses submissions, and sends seniors in circles. “Every year, I cannot believe the difficulty,” she told us.
In 2023, after years of navigating that process alone, she contacted the Medicare Rights Center.
Every year, she comes back to us. And every year, we are there.
Our counselors work alongside her through each renewal, gathering documentation, navigating the process, and making sure her application doesn’t fall through the cracks. Because of that support, Wilhelmina has kept her benefits, year after year.
