The comments that follow are informed by our experience assisting people as they navigate the Medicare program. We discuss the importance of including the beneficiary perspective in efforts to create a patient-centered health care system that promotes value and that preserves and bolsters the consumer protections that are at the heart of the Medicare program.
We appreciate the work the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) is doing to streamline and modernize the Medicare Shared Savings Program (MSSP) and to ensure its longterm success. While it is clear that the current program needs to be improved, we continue to support its underlying goal of increasing value and beneficiary well-being in the health system.
